“If a new strain of coronavirus reaches Georgia, the healthcare system will collapse,” said Dr Giorgi Pkhakadze, the Adviser on Health to UN Secretary-General.
He said quality medical masks could be one of the best ways to stay safe.
“If this virus cannot be stopped, and it spreads to the European continent and reaches Georgia, we will have the worst situation. We have seen that our healthcare system cannot control this virus. If it gets to Georgia, it will be challenging for us. The good quality medical mask can be one of the best ways of protection, as regular ones may not be enough to fight this strain,” Dr Giorgi Pkhakadze said.
According to the Interagency Coordinating Council’s decision, due to the new strain of coronavirus in the UK, citizens of all countries with a history of traveling to the UK during the last 14 days will be subject to a 12-day mandatory quarantine upon entry in Georgia.
European countries have suspended flights to the UK due to the discovery of a new strain of coronavirus.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, has said that the new SARS-CoV-2 detected in the south of the country is 70% more infectious.
