The Public Health Institute of Georgia is pleased to announce the launch of a new course developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) Department of Health and Migration, tailored for health workers who provide services to migrants and refugees.
This training is designed to equip health workers with the skills to deliver culturally sensitive healthcare, addressing the specific health needs of these populations.
The course, offered in English, takes approximately six hours to complete and is available free of charge.
WHO states: “Health workers play a pivotal role in delivering people-centered care and enhancing health systems to meet the needs of refugees and migrants. This course strengthens the knowledge and competencies of health professionals, utilizing the WHO’s Refugee and Migrant Health: Global Competency Standards for Health Workers. These standards define the competencies and behaviors required for delivering culturally responsive care.”
Course Overview:
This competency-based course is intended for health professionals working with refugee and migrant communities.
It includes a mix of videos, presentations, case studies, exercises, and quizzes to develop essential skills. The course is designed to build on the existing knowledge of participants, focusing on the practical application of skills through competency-based performance evaluations.
It also explores the barriers refugees and migrants face in accessing healthcare, such as language and cultural differences, discrimination, and limited healthcare access in host countries.
